Burleigh House has been specially adapted to cater for our residents with Dementia.

The environment is user friendly for persons with memory and orientation difficulties by ensuring that appropriate signage, colours, equipment and safety measures are provided throughout the home.

The home also offers a circuit style corridor system that allows individuals the opportunity to walk and exercise as desired, as well as providing secure outdoor areas for the Residents’ enjoyment.

In particular, the home specialises in the provision of both Montessori-based and Spaced Retrieval Therapies.

Montessori Based Therapy is unique to Burleigh House. It aims in assisting maintaining cognitive abilities and life skills, strengthening hand eye coordination, assisting with concentration and reinforcing all aspects of memory. These therapies are carried out on a person centred and personal basis matched to the needs of the individual.

Spaced Retrieval (SR) Memory therapy is provided to those experiencing short term memory problems. A screening assessment will determine who will be susceptible to SR memory training and for those who it is deemed appropriate, a person specific program is tailored to meet their needs in maintaining and reinforcing memory too assist in everyday life, such as, remembering some of their daily tasks or perhaps for example remembering that their families know where they are.
