Burleigh House has been
specially adapted to cater for our
residents with Dementia.
The environment is user friendly
for persons with memory and orientation
difficulties by ensuring that appropriate signage, colours, equipment and safety
measures are provided throughout the home.
The home also offers a circuit
style corridor system that allows individuals the opportunity to
walk and
exercise as desired, as well as
providing secure outdoor areas for
the Residents’ enjoyment.
In particular, the home specialises
in the provision of both Montessori-based
and Spaced Retrieval Therapies.
Montessori Based Therapy is
unique to Burleigh House. It aims in
assisting maintaining cognitive abilities and life skills,
strengthening hand eye coordination,
assisting with concentration and
reinforcing all aspects of memory.
These therapies are carried out on a person centred and personal basis matched
to the needs of the individual.
Spaced Retrieval (SR) Memory therapy is provided to those experiencing
short term memory problems. A
screening assessment will determine who will be susceptible to SR memory
training and for those who it is deemed appropriate, a
person specific program is tailored
to meet their needs in maintaining and
reinforcing memory too assist in
everyday life, such as, remembering some of their daily tasks or perhaps for
example remembering that their families
know where they are.
